Many men and women can face hair loss or hair thinning issues in their lifetime. This can be for a number different of reasons, such as stress, genetic conditions and sometimes ageing.
If you are experiencing types of hair loss issues and you have been looking for a way that these problems can be helped, you might have considered a hair transplant in Turkey. A hair transplant can be one form of treatment for hair loss and hair thinning issues that may produce good results in some people, depending on various factors.
A hair transplant is not a risk-free procedure, as it is a form of invasive cosmetic surgery. You should always seek independent medical advice before undergoing any form of medical treatment, and you must be 18 years of age or older to choose to undergo cosmetic surgery of any kind.
If you have considered a hair transplant to help with any hair loss or hair thinning issues that you might be experiencing, then Turkey might have been one place that you have considered travelling to in order to get a hair transplant operation done.
When it comes to hair restoration, Turkey can be one of the more affordable options for transplant procedures. This can be for a number of reasons, such as competitive prices. As there are many different types of hair transplant clinics in Turkey offering these types of procedures, the price of a hair transplant in a place like Istanbul can be more competitive than in the UK.
Cosmedica is a hair transplant clinic in Istanbul run by Dr Levent Acar who has over 16 years of experience in the industry and specialises in FUE (Follicular Unit Extraction) and Sapphire DHI (Direct Hair Implantation) hair transplants. A hair transplant procedure at Cosmedica can cost between £2,000 and £3,500, and the prices can vary depending on various factors such as which procedure is used and how many hair grafts need to be used.
There are different types of hair transplant procedures that can help with hair loss issues on different parts of the body. The most common type of transplant that is performed, is the head hair transplant. At Cosmedica, beard and eyebrow transplants are also on offer, as well as information and procedures about hair transplants specifically for women.
There are two main types of hair transplant methods at Cosmedica – FUE (Follicular Unit Extraction) and DHI (Direct Hair Implantation). Here are some of the differences to help you make an informed decision about which procedure might be right for you:
FUE hair transplant
A follicular unit is a group of between one and four hairs that are close together. This is also known as a graft and the hair on the scalp usually grows in lots of follicular units, rather than individual hairs.
During an FUE hair transplant, follicular units (grafts) are removed from the donor area on the scalp using a hollow needle known as a punch. The donor area is a space on the scalp where the hair is thickest, usually the back of the head and neck. Once the grafts have been removed from the donor area, they are prepared and implanted back into the recipient area of the scalp. This is the place where hair loss is occurring.
A Sapphire FUE hair transplant follows the same technique as the regular FUE transplantation method, except a Sapphire blade, is used to make incisions in the scalp for the harvested grafts to be placed into. The use of this type of technology can allow for reduced scabbing and scarring in most cases.
After roughly ten days, the areas where the grafts were taken from the donor area should no longer be visible. Around two to three months after the transplant procedure has taken place, you may start to see some initial hair growth. It is around this time that the transplanted follicles may fall out. This is known as shock loss and it occurs in most patients and is normally nothing to worry about.
Between six and 12 months after the FUE hair transplant, the recipient area should begin to show the newly transplanted hair beginning to grow, where you may begin to see how the hair transplant looks before and after. Depending on your age and health, as well as other various factors, the results from the procedure may vary.
DHI hair transplant
As the name suggests, a direct hair implantation transplant does not involve the preparation of the grafts between harvesting and implantation like during the FUE method. Instead, a special punch known as a Choi implanter pen, is a type of hollow needle that is used to extract the hair follicles from the donor area and implant them directly into the recipient area.
The use of this Choi implanter pen means that the surgeon at Cosmedica performing the transplant procedure can aim to insert the punch at a 45-degree angle. This can allow the surgeon to place the transplanted hair more in line with the existing hair, and aim for a more natural-looking end result.
Much like the FUE method, there is also a Sapphire version of the DHI technique. The first step of this is to gather the hair follicles from the donor area using the FUE method. Then, the Sapphire blade is used to open micro-channels in the recipient area of the scalp, so that the Choi implanter pen can be used to implant the transplanted follicles directly into the recipient area.
The scalp must be kept wet during the few days following the DHI procedure, and you may also experience shock loss after the first few weeks. Although results vary depending on the age and health of the person, once the transplant hair follicles begin to grow back, the full results from the procedure should be seen within six to 12 months after the operation.
The results of any hair transplant operation can depend on various factors, including the age and health of the person, how many grafts are needed and how experienced the surgeon is at the procedure.
