For Data Privacy Week 2023, the ITRC will release its Annual Data Breach Report exploring shifts in the root causes of identity-related crimes.
SAN DIEGO (PRWEB) January 18, 2023
Today, the Identity Theft Resource Center® (ITRC), a nationally recognized nonprofit organization established to support victims of identity crime, announced its commitment to Data Privacy Week 2023. The ITRC supports the principle that all organizations share the responsibility of being conscientious stewards of personal information.
As part of Data Privacy Week 2023 on January 22-28, the ITRC will unveil the 17th edition of our Annual Data Breach Report on Wednesday, January 25, at the Identity, Authentication and the Road Ahead Cybersecurity Policy Forum, presented by the Better Identity Coalition, the FIDO Alliance and the ITRC. The ITRC will also have a session featuring the Center’s work on identity crimes in the Black community.
The policy forum will bring together leaders from government, industry and nonprofits to discuss what can be done to drive better identity infrastructure in America, what to expect from the new Congress and the Biden Administration in 2023, the findings in the ITRC’s 2022 Annual Data Breach Report and more. The 2022 Annual Data Breach Report will explore fundamental shifts in the root causes of identity-related crimes. Interested media, public policy and business leaders may register for the forum on the ITRC's website idtheftcenter.org under the “Events” tab.
"The ITRC is happy to take part and be a Champion of Data Privacy Week 2023," said Eva Velasquez, President and CEO of the Identity Theft Resource Center. "The speed and scope of data breaches are far too high, making data collection best practices that respect privacy and promote transparency more important now than ever. Our Annual Data Breach Report is a tool that highlights some troubling trends and provides meaningful data and information that can lead to positive changes in data practices and a reduction in identity crimes."
For Data Privacy Week 2023, the ITRC will also reveal additional details on our notified Business data breach alert service, coming later in Q1 2023. Notified Business is the most comprehensive repository of publicly reported, U.S.-based data breaches.
Data Privacy Week is an annual expanded effort from Data Privacy Day with the goal of spreading awareness about online privacy among individuals and organizations. The purpose is twofold: to help citizens understand that they have the power to manage their data and to help organizations understand why it is important to respect their users' data.
