EC Asks To Make Braille Voter’s Slips For Inclusive Elections – Vibes of India

Visually impaired voters will receive braille voter slips during the Gujarat assembly elections. Braille is a tactile writing system used by the visually impaired or those with low vision who can’t access print materials.
The Gujarat government has instructed the Blind People’s Association (BPA) to create voters slip in braille. The Election Commission of India’s app for People with Disabilities (PWD) has recorded 82,000 registrations so far from the visually impaired in the state.
The braille voter’s slip will have data like area, polling station, address, constituency, photo ID and voter ID. The app also has provisions for data editing, migration, and deletion from a voter list. Additionally, PWDs can avail of facilities like wheelchairs, pick-up and drop facilities through the app.
Once ready, officials will collect the slips from the respective district collector’s office and hand them over to the visually impaired voters at their residences.
As many as 34,000 braille voter slips were made during the 2019 Lok Sabha elections in the state. The braille system has been introduced to make elections more inclusive.
