Long ridiculed by anyone with a sense of fashion the Croc shoe is hailed by it's champions as being the most comfortable beach attire for your foot imaginable, but recent research by eminent podiatrists have recently lead to doctors warning that wearing Crocs for any length of time can lead to a number of ill effects.
“Unfortunately Crocs are not suitable for all-day use, ... [as] these shoes do not adequately secure the heel. When the heel is unstable, toes tend to grip which can lead to tendinitis, worsening of toe deformities, nail problems, corns and calluses. The same thing can happen with flip flops or any backless shoes as the heel is not secured.” said one doctor. “Patients are more likely to have foot pain if their shoes bend in the shank,” said another, adding that the shoes “are the ‘poster child’ for shoes with a flexible shank. ... In other words, on a daily basis, I see patients who come into my office complaining of arch or heel pain and they are wearing Crocs,” Another top scientist writing in the Proceedings of the National Institute of Science said that the wearers have been scientifically "proven to look like bell ends" and "this just cements the argument against wearing Crocs".
